 | From Queens Come Kings Now when you think of Jamaica Queens you think of two things…...kingpins and rap stars. Born in bread in the neighborhoods of St Albans and Hollis the musical phenom CHAINSMOKA has always been around them both. “I went to IS 192 in junior high school, and that was right on Hollis and 205th” says CHAINSMOKA reminiscing on younger days.. “Walking home from school you would see DMC right there on the corner drinking 40s & shit, then you get to Farmers blvd & 109 and your slappin 5 with the biggest hustlers in the game then you go home and turn on Video Music Box and then there’s Run Dmc again!! That makes u feel like your apart of something special, that’s why its in the water for Queens M.Cs.” During the mid 80’s and 90’s when most of his crew was hustling CHAINSMOKA was more of a soul searcher. “ I used to get inspired by different things, religion, music, art, and once hip hop came that was it, I knew I found my calling. I was always in one rap group or another ever since 6th grade and I was always around the best M.Cs so like I said its in the water!!!” After high school and a short stint in collage CHAINSMOKA enrolled in audio school and began a very successful career as a recording engineer. Working with top producers( Trackmasters, Wycleff Jean , Havoc, Hitmen) writers( Static Major, Tank, Mary Brown,) and artist (Lauryn Hill, Nas, Jay Z) CHAINSMOKA is a step above your average new artist. “I've been around the best of the best for years!!! DO YOU KNOW WHAT THAT MAKES ME!!!!!……. A FUCKIN BEAST!!!!” CHAINSMOKA says excitedly with smoke billowing out his nostrils. You may think that the name CHAINSMOKA refers to his obvious love affair with the“good good green” as he calls it but CHAINSMOKA begs to differ. “Everything I write is hot!! Hip Hop R&B Rock whatever!!!! My shit smokes !!! feel me! so….I'm a CHAINSMOKA!!!! |
